Privacy Policy
Effective date: February 2, 2026
Orbit is a privacy-first contact tracker. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, stores, and shares when you use Orbit.
1. What information Orbit accesses and stores
Contacts (optional, with your permission)
If you choose to import or pick contacts, Orbit may access your device address book read-only to help you select people you want to track. Depending on what's available on your device and what you select, this may include:
- Contact name (display name)
- Phone number (optional)
- Contact photo/thumbnail (optional)
- Device contact identifier (used to retrieve a contact in your address book)
Orbit copies the selected details into the app's local database so you can use Orbit even after the initial import.
Data you create in the app (stored locally)
Orbit stores the information you add or generate inside the app on your device, such as:
- Your Orbit contact list (names, optional phone numbers, optional photos)
- Categories you create (name, icon, color)
- Special date types you create (name, icon, color)
- Special dates for contacts (date + optional note)
- Contact history (dates/timestamps you mark as "contacted")
- Preferences (language/locale, theme, onboarding flags, default frequency, notification preferences, premium status cache)
Photos (optional, with your permission)
On iOS, if you choose to add a photo, Orbit may request photo library access to let you pick an image. Orbit does not scan your library; it only receives the image you select.
2. What Orbit does not collect
Orbit does not require you to create an account and does not collect:
- Your precise location
- Your contacts automatically without your action and permission
- Your messages/call logs
3. How Orbit uses your information
Orbit uses the information above to:
- Show and manage your selected Orbit contacts
- Calculate when a contact is "due" based on your chosen frequency
- Schedule local reminders and special-date notifications (if enabled)
- Organize contacts with categories and special dates
- Let you back up/restore your Orbit data (import/export)
4. Where your data is processed (local-first)
Orbit stores app data on your device using a local database (Hive). Orbit does not run its own backend for storing your contacts or relationship data.
Your device's operating system and any device backup services you enable (e.g., iCloud / Google backups) may back up app data depending on your device settings.
5. Sharing and disclosure
Subscriptions (Adapty)
Orbit uses Adapty to manage subscriptions and entitlement (premium) status. The Adapty SDK communicates with Adapty servers to:
- Load paywalls and process subscription-related events
- Check/restore premium entitlement status
As part of providing subscription services, Adapty may process device identifiers and purchase/subscription information. Orbit does not send your Orbit contact list to Adapty.
App stores and payments (Apple / Google)
If you purchase a subscription, payments are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your full payment card details.
Export / Share (you control)
If you export a backup, Orbit creates a JSON backup file and opens your device's share sheet. Where that file goes (cloud drive, email, messenger, etc.) depends on what you choose. The recipients/services you pick will process the file under their own privacy policies.
External links and email (you control)
Orbit can open external links (e.g., Privacy Policy, Terms) and can open your email client to contact support. These actions happen through your device; any information you send is under your control.
6. Permissions
Orbit may request the following permissions, depending on your device and your choices:
- Contacts: to let you import/select contacts (read-only)
- Notifications: to show local reminders and special-date notifications
- Photos (iOS): to let you pick a contact photo
You can grant or revoke permissions at any time in your device settings. If you revoke a permission, some features may not work.
7. Data retention and deletion
- Data you add to Orbit is kept until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app.
- Exported backups persist wherever you save/share them; you are responsible for deleting those copies from third-party services or storage locations you choose.
8. Security
Orbit stores data locally on your device. No system can guarantee absolute security. We recommend using device-level protections such as a passcode/biometrics and OS updates.
9. Children's privacy
Orbit is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Effective date" above when we do.
